Managing Formula Revisions Using the BOM Updates Function
The BOM Updates transaction allows a user to mass replace or delete items on bill of material lists, giving the user the ability to assign substitute parts on a large scale, or delete discontinued items. A user can modify the BOM of all items to provide a replacement item without editing each and every item. Users may also choose to remove an item from all BOMs in one action. Note that this function does not replace or delete items for bill of material revisons that are contained in existing production jobs. The security setting "Item master — BOM mass replace delete" controls access to this transaction.
Configuration
Parts along with pre-existing BOMs must exist before a BOM can be replaced or deleted. Other than that, Facilities, Categories, and Sub-categories should also exist.
Process
- Navigate to Inventory > BOM Updates.
- The BOM Updates pre-filter will be displayed.
- In the "Action" field, choose either "Delete" or "Replace".
- Fill in additional selection criteria as required. The link in step 1 contains details on these selection criteria.
- Once all the information has been entered, click the "Apply" button.
- The system will apply the changes. This may take some time. Once the changes are complete the system will display a message indicating how many BOM records have been affected.
Note: This function does not replace or delete items for bill of material revisions that are contained in existing production jobs.
